Autumn colors

Sunday was one of those perfect, not too hot, not too cold, ah yes this is just right, sunny autumn days. Monday morning the ground was wet from rain. The sky still heavily overcast. The temperature outside cool enough to allow me to enjoy the warmth, as well as flickering flames of my little electric cast iron stove in the bedroom as I sat propped up in bed sipping my morning tea, and surfing through the news headlines. My heart going out to the family and loved ones of the 14 Americans killed in Helicopter crashes in Afghanistan.
On a slightly lighter note, was the story about a Norway smuggler nabbed in a skin crawling bust. The fact that the smuggler taped the 14 royal pythons, and 10 albino leopard geckos to his body, enough to give many a good case of pre-Halloween creeps.
The day remained cloudy and cold. The flames in the large electric fireplace in the living room have been flickering all day. Their faux fire dance accompanied by a very real gentle flow of warm air from the vent at the top of the glass enclosed electric logs. That gently heated air much welcomed as I stood in front of it warming my hands after finishing my outside chores that afternoon.
To add a touch of autumn colors to the living room I brought in the small silk and faux gourd arrangement and the large bright orange with touches of yellow gourd pumpkin decoration from the porch room. I sat the small basket on the left side of the fireplace, and the pumpkin gourd on the right side. The dining room table is also sporting its fall colors in the form of a silk arrangement featuring yellow sunflowers set against a backdrop of various shades of autumn leaves.
Monday evening found me relaxing in my recliner after an early bath, shucking scantily clad sexiness in favor of the comfort and warmth of a pastel sea green knit top, and baggy drawstring pin striped linen bottoms. The scent of Passion perfume, a Glade Spiced Rose & Vanilla oil candle, and fresh baked yeast bread rolls mingling with the warm air coming from in the living room fireplace as the faux fire flames continued to flicker and dance. Hot bread rolls are getting to be a daily treat since I discovered how easy it is to give a small 6 cup muffin pan a light spraying of Pam, drop a frozen ball of dough into each cup, then a few hours later, pop the thawed, freshly risen rolls into the oven.
Tuesday dawned cold and foggy, but later turned into a beautiful day with an afternoon high of 76. I took advantage of that perfect weather to do a few odd chores around the yard like wrapping exposed pipes in preparation for possible night time freezes. Then took a few minutes to sit in the north garden and enjoy the last of my beautiful flowers, before a night time cold snap reduces them to sad brown leafed remnants of their former beauty and glory. Though for the perennial plants in my garden, promises of future springtime beauty will be found in their withered winter leaves.
The glorious autumn day was only briefly marred after I read the story of a 15-year-old convicted of beating two homeless men to death, and realized I have become so accustomed to the brutality often found beneath a headline news story, I didn't even ask, "How could this happen?" Sadder still the realization that future news stories seemed destined to contain more and more of that kind of brutal violence beneath their attention grabbing headlines.
Then I looked out the big bay window, and as the sun began to slowly set, saw some clouds turning pretty shades of pink. I picked up the digital camera that happened to be sitting within easy reach, and took a photo of those pretty pink clouds as seen from my recliner, through the large picture windows in my living room. A few minutes later I walked over to get a better view, and noticed the sunset had turned other clouds glorious shades of fiery orange. I opened the front door, stepped outside, snapped a photo of those too, then took a moment to enjoy the colorful sunset I was being treated to. Those two photos are now a reminder to me, and hopefully all who view them, that sometimes finding beauty, is as simple as looking out the window.
